Privacy Policy

Who operates Alospws

Alospws is not a registered company. It is currently operated by two individuals, Nefeli Ellina and Abdulrahman Alafandi, working from Cyprus. In data protection terms, they are jointly responsible for the information described in this policy.

Operating address, for data protection correspondence:
Emmanuel Xanthou 14, Engomi, 2415, Nicosia, Cyprus.

For anything to do with your information, email contact@alospws.com. That is the fastest route and the one we monitor.

What stage Alospws is at

Alospws is being built as a tutoring marketplace, but it is not open yet. At this stage we are only recruiting our founding tutors. There is no public tutor directory, no student browsing, no session booking and no payments. Any part of the site that demonstrates how booking will work uses sample data and is labelled as such.

What we collect

From someone applying to become a founding tutor, we collect: full name, email address, education level, the school or university they studied at, how many years they have taught, an optional self-reported GPA, the subjects they can teach, the supporting documents they choose to upload, and the date and time of the submission.

Supporting documents are typically a CV, transcript or certificate, as a PDF, JPG or PNG.

We do not ask separately for a phone number, date of birth, home address, institution address or graduation year. Some of that information may appear inside a document an applicant chooses to upload. Where it does, it reaches us as part of that document rather than as something we requested, and we do not extract it into separate fields.

When we review an application we also record our own notes about it, and the reason if we decline. These are our working notes rather than information you gave us, but they are about you, so you can ask to see them.

If you create an account on the site, we also hold the email address and name you register with, and a record of the confirmation you gave about your age or a guardian's approval. Accounts exist so the eventual marketplace has somewhere to attach to; there is nothing to book yet.

Why we collect it

To review founding tutor applications, to judge whether an applicant suits the founding group, to read the qualifications and supporting material they send, to communicate with them about their application, and — if they are accepted — to invite them into the marketplace when it opens.

Applying does not guarantee acceptance. We read every application ourselves.

Legal basis

We process application information in order to assess the application and to take steps at the applicant's own request before any working relationship exists. Where separate consent is required for something, we ask for it separately rather than treating an application as blanket permission.

[To be confirmed: the precise legal basis wording is subject to legal review. We have stated what we actually do rather than selecting a basis to make this section look settled]

How long we keep it

We intend to keep founding tutor application information for 12 months from the date of submission, and then delete it. The only exception is where a legal obligation requires us to keep something for longer, in which case we keep only what that obligation covers, for only as long as it applies.

You can ask us to delete your application sooner — see “Your rights” below.

Who else is involved

We use two service providers to run the site. Neither of them uses your information for their own purposes.

  • Supabase — holds the application database, accounts and the documents applicants upload.
  • Vercel — hosts the website.

We do not currently use any analytics provider, advertising platform or advertising pixel, and we do not currently use a transactional email provider. If we introduce any of these, we will update this policy before they go live, and obtain consent where consent is required.

Where your information is stored

Our database and uploaded documents are held by Supabase in its eu-west-1 (Ireland) region, inside the European Economic Area. The site itself is served by Vercel, whose global content delivery network may serve static assets from servers outside the EEA; no personal information passes through that layer, since the application data always comes from our Supabase database in Ireland.

Automated decisions and AI

We do not use artificial intelligence to review applications or to process personal information. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling. Every application is read by one of the two people named at the top of this page.

Cookies and tracking

We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies or advertising cookies. If you sign in, a cookie is used to keep you signed in; that is a functional necessity rather than tracking, and it does not follow you to other websites.

Age

Tutors must be 18 or over. We ask applicants to confirm this before they apply.

The student side of Alospws is not open. When it opens, a student under 18 will need a parent or guardian to authorise their use of the service. The process for obtaining and verifying that authorisation will be finalised and described here before the marketplace is opened to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly hold information about children today, and if you believe we do, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, or object to our use of it. Email contact@alospws.com and we will respond.

We will delete your application on request. The only thing we would keep is anything a legal obligation requires us to keep, and we will tell you if that applies rather than quietly retaining it.

If you think we have handled your information badly, you can complain to the Cypriot data protection authority, the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when what we do changes — in particular before introducing analytics, advertising, payments or any automated processing, and before opening the marketplace to students. The date at the top reflects the last change.
